The first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is finally here, and it looks spectacular. After one of the weirdest trailer releases in recent memory (dropping two-second clips online, really?), Sony has at last given us a proper look at this new era for the iconic Webhead. Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is focused on his duties as the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man, while MJ and Ned (neither of whom remember him) get on with their lives, enrolled at MIT. With Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton at the helm and some very intriguing hints about Peter’s powers, this is already shaping up to be a bold new chapter. Check out the trailer here:
From the get-go, the new vision is obvious, and I am completely here for it. The camera movement, the colours, the way this Spider-Man moves – it all feels fresh. The trailer really leans into the emotional hook of Peter having to watch his girlfriend and best friend go off to college together, having completely forgotten he exists. It also looks like Zendaya’s MJ has a new love interest, played by Ahsoka’s Eman Esfandi. It’s a heartbreaking premise that feels so inherently Spider-Man.
There’s plenty of action in this trailer too. We see Spidey teaming up with Punisher, using his webs to shut down some of that R-rated language we’re all used to hearing, finally going head-to-head with Scorpion after what feels like forever, and battling what looks to be The Hand. Could we finally be heading towards a crossover with a certain devil from Hell’s Kitchen?

What’s really interesting, though, is that Peter’s powers seem to be going through some kind of transformation. We see him waking up covered in webs, seemingly developing organic web-shooters, and discussing mutating DNA with Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner. There’s also a brief shot of a mysterious hooded figure who appears to be controlling minds. Assuming that is Sadie Sink’s character, could she be playing the all-powerful Jean Grey?
This was a fantastic first look at this new vision for Spider-Man, and the tonal shift feels exactly like what was needed. New York feels especially alive here; even from this short trailer, it already feels less like a backdrop and more like part of the action. Seeing these smaller interactions between Spidey and other MCU characters is great too – it really feels like a comic book brought to life.
It’s definitely going to be a wild ride and I am extremely excited to see more. We’ve only got a few more months until Spider-Man: Brand New Day releases this summer, on July 31st.
