A monthly roundup of everything that’s been on my screen this month.
Time is absolutely flying, what do you mean we’re already halfway through April? It’s only been a few weeks but there’s been no shortage of entertainment.
Without further ado, let’s dive into this month’s Screen Time.
What I’m Watching
Daredevil Born Again Season 2
Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again is a clear step up. It feels tighter, more intentional, and while it doesn’t quite hit the highs of the Netflix era, it’s still a damn good time.
The setup is strong: Wilson Fisk is now Mayor of New York and has outlawed vigilantism. Naturally, that puts Daredevil directly in his crosshairs. It’s a great premise that leans into some very real social and political parallels. At times, you almost forget this is a comic book show.

The writing at times does feel jarring with dialogue between characters feeling stiff, though it does feel like it’s improving as the season continues. The action on the other hand, is brutally fantastic, with the choreography and camerawork is a real treat to watch.
Wilson Bethel’s Poindexter, better known as Bullseye is by far the standout. He is masterful as the psychotic marksman and kills it in every scene he’s in (quite literally). It’s insane to me that the original showrunners were never going to bring him back.
There are still a few episodes left and based on where things are going, it feels like it’s about to kick up another gear.
Invincible Season 4
I’m really loving this season of Invincible. The brutal violence has always been at the forefront of the show but what’s always separated it from others, is it’s examination of this violence in relation to its characters.
Season 4 wastes no time picking up from where things left off. The aftermath of Mark’s fight with Conquest is front and centre and you can feel the weight of it in everything – his relationships, his mindset, even how he approaches being a hero.

It’s not just Mark carrying that emotional depth either. Nolan continues to be one of the most compelling characters in the show, and J.K. Simmons is excellent as always. Watching him wrestle with who he is and whether he can actually change is easily one of the strongest parts of the season.
Don’t get me wrong, the action is here and when it kicks off, it really kicks off. Episode 5 had me on the edge of my seat and wincing at my TV screen.
The animation is the weakest part of the show unfortunately, it’s not bad by any means but it’s easy to see where budget was limited. But if I’m being honest, I was never here for the animation. It’s the writing and the characters that really stood out and this season is arguably the strongest they’ve ever been.
What I’m Playing
Invincible VS Beta
Invincible again? It’s an exciting month for Invincible fans, not only is season 4 here but a new 3v3 fighting game releases at the end of the month. The open beta for Invincible VS has been out for a few days and I’m having a ton of fun with it.
The game is developed Quarter Up, a new internal studio at Skybound made up of former Killer Instinct (2013) developers and you can really tell. The game feels so fast and fluid and of course is full of blood and guts, which shouldn’t surprise anyone.

It feels very easy to pick up and with some practice, you’ll be stringing together some long and flashy combos in no time. There’s definitely some broken characters but with it being a Beta, I’m not too worried about that right now. There’s a lot of depth and mechanics that make it feel fresh and fun, it feels like it’s got enough to appeal to casuals and fighting game fans.
However, with this I think it does find itself in a tricky situation. It’s no doubt going to attract a ton of Invincible fans who just want to punch each other up as their favourite characters however, the depth might turn off casual players. I just hope the devs don’t make it easier and try to simplify things because learning a fighting game is part of the experience.
It’s been a while since I picked up a fighting game so I’m looking forward to sinking hours into this one.
Lost Judgement
I’m a big fan of the Yakuza series. The compelling characters and narrative, the over-the-top combat and of course, the wacky side stories make them so unique.
Lost Judgment is the sequel to Judgment, a PlayStation spin-off from RGG Studio centred on detective Takayuki Yagami.
I really enjoyed the first game. I’m a sucker for a good detective story and combining that with RGG Studio’s approach to game design was a great time. Lost Judgement then, improves on its predecessor in pretty much every way…except its story.

Combat is so much fun, allowing you to just devastate enemies with three different fighting styles; Tiger, Crane, and Snake. Side stories are still as funny and weird as ever, especially the newly introduced school stories, and Yagami and rest of the cast are great.
The story on the other hand whilst not necessarily bad, becomes very convoluted and messy. It’s dealing with some very heavy subject matter such as bullying, suicide and sexual assault, and whilst its heart is in the right place, by the end of the game I didn’t really feel anything.
Retro Rewind
If you’ve ever find yourself wanting to run your own Blockbusters then boy do I have a game for you. Retro Rewind lets you manage your own video store from the 90s. Purchase videos, display them, decorate accordingly, and serve your customers. It’s a straightforward loop but the main appeal that separates it from actual work is the 90s nostalgia.

There’s a lot to keep busy with but it never feels stressful, the pace is demanding but manageable which is important in a game like this. It’s not got the most engaging gameplay but it’s a very chilled out experience that lets you relive that analogue experience.
What’s really cool is it lets you upload your own video to the TV in the store – I’ve got season 2 of Community running in the back and I never get sick of it. If you’re looking for a laidback simulator that lets you relive that days before streaming, give this one a go.
What’s Next?
I feel like the backlog is never ending, whether it’s old TV I need to catch up on or new game releases.
Mouse: PI For Hire also drops this week and that’s a game I’ve been super excited for since it was announced. There’s a also couple films that I’m looking forward to – Lee Cronin’s The Mummy and video-game adaptation, Exit 8.
Let me know what you’ve been enjoying or not enjoying, and feel free to drop me a recommendation.
