New Star Fox and Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake rumoured to release this year!

Reportedly, an all-new ‘classic-style’ Star Fox game will be released for Switch 2 this summer.

As if 2026 wasn’t stacked enough, Nintendo might just surprise us all with two games no one really saw coming.

According to prominent Nintendo insider Natethehate – who’s previously shared a ton of information on the company’s 2026 plans – the company has plans to release an all-new but still “classic” Star Fox revival.

“Star Fox is coming back in summer 2026. We’re getting a new Star Fox game in the very near future,” he stated. “I’ve been told it’s a classic style Star Fox game, [and that] the visuals are supposed to be very good, and I’ve heard it does have online multiplayer.”

This new entry would mark Mcloud’s first major new release in a decade – a crime it’s taken so long. The recent announcement of his appearance in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie did raise some eyebrows, causing some fans to think Nintendo wants to boost his popularity before a new game announcement.

But that’s not all! According to Natethehate, Nintendo also has plans to release a Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for the Switch 2 towards the end of the year. “In the second half of 2026, approaching the holidays if not the holidays, we are going to receive an Ocarina of Time remake for the Switch 2,” Natehehate said.

There’s no major details around the scope of the remake but considers it may be “a 1:1 remake akin to Demon Souls or maybe a remake that is free to explore design choices”. Apparently, this remake will fill the gap of a new 3D Mario game, which Natethehate suggests won’t be releasing until 2027.

VGC’s own sources have also corroborated the report, which you can check out via the video below.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is one of the most beloved games in Nintendo history, and one of the highest-rated games of all time on Metacritic.

With the Zelda series turning 40 last month and The Legend of Zelda film also due to release in May 2027, it’s likely Nintendo will want to do something big for the franchise.

The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Poster

I’ve never actually had a chance to play through Ocarina of Time but don’t worry, it is in the never-ending backlog. Maybe I’ll play through it before this alleged remake.

If we do end up getting these two games this year, the Switch 2 is definitely looking to have a very strong library within it’s first year. If Pokémon Pokopia wasn’t enough, Star Fox and Zelda definitely are.
